Makoto Noda is vice president of Mobile NW Division of Softbank Corp. (SBKK), and vice president of Mobile Network of Wireless City Planning (WCP).
He was appointed to the positions at SBKK and WCP in 2017 and is responsible for the strategic planning of their domestic wireless networks, the designing, development and quality control of Radio Access Network (RAN) including backhaul, and various RAN project management roles for both companies.
He has nearly two decades of business planning, project management, leadership and engineering experience in both wired and wireless network business fields. Most recently, he was the project leader of the RF network optimization project called ‘TOPGUN’, which is a breakthrough method based on ‘Big Data’ from User Equipment, and is deployed in both SBKK and Sprint Corp. in the U.S.
Through his career in SoftBank Group, he has led various unprecedented projects successfully, such as; 1) BB phone – the first large-scaled commercial IP phone service on broadband internet (started in 2001) ;2) RF repeater and femto-cell deployment for residential homes and small businesses which required licensing deregulation from the government; 3) established Big Data analysis and efficient RF optimization mechanism by organizing cross functional projects in addition to various other projects.
In addition, he was dispatched to Sprint Corp. as a Director of RF Optimization Engineering for two years from the beginning of 2015, supporting the CTO, and has contributed to Sprint’s recent significant NW quality improvement through the ‘One Team’ project with SBKK. This global business experience enhanced his perspective for technology, business strategies and global communication.
He began his business career at Sumitomo Corp. in sales engineering of electric systems and software in 1993. In 1999 he Joined Digital Club Corp., a SoftBank subsidiary, and was assigned as a business development manager in the broadband internet business field. Subsequent assignments have included being the Director of BB phone (IP phone) service department of BB Technology Corp. which was later renamed Softbank BB Corp. After SoftBank acquired Vodafone Japan in 2006, he was appointed as deputy vice president of Communication NW Division of Softbank Mobile Corp. in 2008 and was responsible for residential and small office coverage. His following position was when he was appointed as vice president of Mobile Solution Division of SBKK and was responsible for indoor coverage and NW optimization.
In 2015, Makoto Noda was dispatched to Sprint Corp as Director of RF Optimization Engineering.
He received a Bachelor of Mathematical and Computing Science degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology in Tokyo, Japan.
