Principal Research Scientist, Temasek Laboratories at National University of Singapore
Tan-Huat Chio received the B.Eng. (Honours) and MSc(EE) from the National University of Singapore (NUS), in 1990 and 1993 respectively. He also receives the MSECE and PhD degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, in 1997 and 1999, respectively. From 1990 to 1993, he worked in the Defense Materiel Organization, Singapore. In 1999, he joined the DSO National Laboratories, Singapore; and went on to serve as the Head of the Antenna System Laboratory from 2004 onwards. From 2006 - 2009, he is a Technical Director of a start-up that developed a Multi-Beam Array for high performance Datalink Applications. He returned to DSO in 2009 to work on Phased Arrays and Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA). Since 2010, he is concurrently a Principal Research Scientist in the Temasek Laboratories at NUS (TL@NUS) and a Principal Member of Technical Staff in DSO National Laboratories. He also co-supervises MSc and PhD students in the ECE Department at NUS. In TL@NUS, he is a PI of an Advanced Antenna Research Program and concurrently led a team to develop a high power Multi-Beam System. His current interest is to apply Software Defined Radio (SDR) to novel applications in Satellite Communications and 5G mobile network systems. He is also considered a leading voice to advocate the use of 3D printing to develop low loss novel microwave components and antennas to be used in Phased Arrays, Spatial Power Combiners and SSPAs
