Luiz Otavio Prates

Luiz Otavio V. Prates graduated in telecommunications engineering from PUC-RJ (Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro) in 1972, with a postgraduate degree in Finance from IBMEC and Marketing from FGV, two well known educational entities in Rio de Janeiro. He worked on several projects at Embratel until he joined the satellite telecommunications project, having even led the Department of Satellite Communications of that company.  After participating in the process of privatization of telecommunications at the end of the years 90, he passed through Anatel, the Brazilian Regulatory Agency, as head of the area of satellite services. After returning to Embratel already privatized, had a leading role in the process of creation of Star One, a satellite company, where he assumed the Position of Director of External and Regulatory affairs, where he remains until the present day, even after the incorporation of Star One by Claro S/A. He is also president of the National Union of Satellite Telecommunications Companies – SINDISAT and, until recently, President of the Association of Satellite Telecommunications Companies – ABRASAT.
