EUROPEAN INVESTMENT BANK
The European Investment Bank has operated in Africa since 1965. Since then, the EU bank has invested €59 billion in 52 African countries, supporting infrastructure projects, innovative firms and renewable energy schemes, the public sector and private companies from microenterprises to the largest multinationals. The EIB is a key part of the EU toolbox that for decades has helped make the partnership between these two continents stronger.
EIB Global is the EIB Group’s new specialised arm dedicated to increasing the impact of international partnerships and development finance. EIB Global is designed to foster strong, focused partnership within Team Europe, alongside fellow development finance institutions, and civil society.
The Bank’s capacity to provide loans with attractive rates, long-term maturities and in local currencies across the continent is a prerequisite for delivering European development objectives. The EU bank is bringing the internet and digital banking to rural communities in countries that have poor infrastructure and investing in telecommunications infrastructure. We are also supporting innovative projects that help develop new financial instruments for the poorest and most disadvantaged people, offering digital services in healthcare, banking, commerce, and government administration. Over the last 5 years, the EIB Global approved over USD 1bn for financing the digital sector in partner countries, representing investments mobilized over EUR 2.5BN
