Head of Project Loon at X (formerly Google[x])
Alastair is the head of Project Loon, a project that has created a network of stratospheric balloons designed to bring internet connectivity to rural and remote areas worldwide. Alastair has over 30 years of experience in the cellular industry. Prior to taking on the role as Head of Project Loon, Alastair was the CEO of Quintel Solutions, Vice President at Nortel and Director of Engineering at Bell Mobility. Alastair has built and run a number of different wireless telecom technology companies in broadband wireless, radio broadcasting, WIMAX, Unified IP communications and RF antenna development and sales, and has held executive positions at Airspan, Inner Wireless, Navini Networks and Tango Networks. He has also been on the advisory boards of Spatial Wireless and Genesis Campus. Alastair holds an electrical engineering degree from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and is a licensed professional engineer with the APEO.
