Deshun Deysel

Mountaineer, Entrepreneur and Educator – the first black female to climb Mount Everest at Deshun Deysel & Associates


Deshun Deysel is perhaps best known as the first black female to climb Mount Everest and was part of the team that placed democratic South Africa’s new flag on the mountain for the first time.

Over 15 years of climbing, Deshun has also lead groups to Mount Everest Base Camp as well as three groups to Mount Kilimanjaro. She has also successfully climbed Mount Meru (Tanzania), Mount Kenya (Kenya), Mount Elbrus (Russia), Mount Kala Pathar (Nepal) and Mount Blanc (France).

Deshun has over 25 years’ experience in the areas of teaching (Human Movement Science) and training and personal development. A recognised international Speaker and facilitator, Deshun has had the privilege of conducting workshops and keynote speaking engagements in fifteen countries across four continents. She is the founder and director of Deshun Deysel & Associates, a business that focuses on encouraging and equipping leadership in a context of change and diversity.
