Director General at National Broadcasting Commission


Is’haq Modibbo Kawu is the Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission. His appointment took effect from May 25, 2016.

Up till his appointment, Is’haq Modibbo Kawu was the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Abuja-based Word, Sound and Vision (WSV) Multimedia Limited, a complete media service outfit that cuts across print, radio, television, internet, as well as event marketing, marketing communications and training.

Kawu has over 37 years’ experience in broadcasting straddling both radio, print and television. He was among the pioneer staff of Radio Kwara and was the pioneer General Manager of Kwara State Television Service, Kwara TV, North Central Nigeria.  Widening his horizon, he had a stint in International broadcasting through reporting for international broadcasters including Cooperation Service Radio France International and BBC World Service.

Kawu is also a prolific contributor to the print media environment with regular columns in the National dailies - Vanguard, Blueprint and Leadership newspapers.  Kawu also held the position of the Editor of Daily Trust Newspaper, Chairman of the Editorial Board of the same newspaper and Chairman, Editorial Board/Coordinator, Radio and Television Project of Media Trust Limited.

Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, a Diploma in Mass Communication from University of Lagos and a Master of Science degree in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano. He is currently studying for a PhD in Defence and Strategic Studies from the Nigeria Defence Academy, Kaduna.

Kawu who is a Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, member of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, North-central Nigeria, and is happily married with children.
