James spent 9 years with Citi in various Foreign Exchange roles, covering South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Ireland and London. Many of these roles were focused on the business end of technology, building, implementing and commercializing ecommerce solutions across, foreign exchange, money market, research and the transactional space.


 James joined Absa Capital in 2009 to head up the global markets ecommerce business. The successful launch of BARX Africa (Absa Capital’s electronic trading platform) in 2010 marked an important step in the strategic direction of the FX business in Africa. In a very short space of time BARX Africa became the leading electronic trading platform across the continent.  In 2012 James assumed responsibility of the Corporate Flow businesses (Foreign Exchange and Money Market) in addition to his Ecommerce responsibilities.  


Late 2014, James was tasked with building a digital capability for the Corporate and Investment bank.  The focus of this role is to deliver technologies and innovate for CIB clients and products significantly improving the client experience, protecting and evolving revenues and ensuring the firm is at the forefront of digital disruption.  


James’ current responsibilities includes all digital and channels for the Corporate and Investment bank, this includes all online, mobile and integrated solutions (Host & API)  across transactional product, global markets, new digital, client and colleague digital estates.  Part of ensuring Barclays Africa is at the forefront of digital innovation; James integrates this business into the thriving external innovation ecosystem through fintech hubs and Barclays’ own RISE accelerator.
