Chief Data Officer at Barclays Africa
Pieter Vorster was appointed as the Chief Data Officer for Barclays Africa Group on 1 November 2016. Pieter’s value in this role comes from a solid foundation of first-class professional training and over 17 years’ financial services experience helping C-level and senior executives uncover untapped revenue and gaining business insights from data.
Prior to joining Barclays in 2007, Pieter worked for Liberty Life as Director Strategic Partners. At Barclays, he held the positions of General Manager Absa Home Loans and Pension Backed Lending, Chief of Staff in the Office of the CEO and then Chief Analytics Officer for the Corporate and Investment Banking business.
Pieter is responsible for the execution of the Data Strategy for Barclays Africa Group. His vision is to help build a bank that is client led and data informed through industry leading competencies in predictive and advanced analytics, data science and business intelligence. The core focus of his Office is to streamline the data supply chain, by ensuring data security, data privacy, data integrity, data quality, regulatory compliance and data governance. This will enable the bank to find relevant data and understand the relationships that matter for more accurate and targeted insights, predictive analytics and the application of artificial intelligence.
Pieter is a qualified Civil Engineer and CFP. He also holds an MBA from the University of Wales where his thesis was on building a predictive model for determining financial adviser success, development and recruitment practices.
