CSIR Meraka Institute as part of the broader CSIR organization conducts research, development and innovation (RDI) in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. In response to South Africa’s National Development Plan, CSIR Meraka Institute focuses on shaping South Africa’s digital future. Through its cross-cutting research, development and innovation interventions, the unit contributes to generating new knowledge for South Africa’s digital economy and industrial development in an effort to attaining a digital advantage for the country. Sabelo is research group leader at CSIR’s Meraka Institute advanced networks team which is developing SDN/NFV conformance test lab, hosting Open5Gcore research testbed and working on SDN/NFV/5G research topics that are seeking to address the challenge broadband penetration and digital divide. Sabelo is a registered engineer with Masters in Electrical Engineering from University of Cape Town. He has experience in telecommunications industry having worked for Cisco Systems, Telkom SA and Vodacom.
