Gail StygerExecutive Trustee at The Wot-If? Trust
Gail Styger is a Social Entrepreneur, who founded and leads a non-profit called The Wot-if? Trust. The organisation operates in an underserved and underprivileged township called Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg.
Diepsloot is a post-apartheid settlement established in 1995, with a population of over 500,000 people. It is often referred to as a place of fear and a refuge for criminals. However, despite the negative perceptions and the extreme poverty, it is a bustling community with an active economy full of hustling and trading, vibrant and passionate people; a place much loved by its inhabitants and affectionately called “Little Africa”.
Fondly known as Sister G in this community, Gail has worked tirelessly for the past 6 years to provide spaces, programmes and platforms for community initiatives and for emerging and small township businesses to get access to skills, resources and opportunities in order to earn a sustainable income. By doing this, she hopes to positively impact the livelihoods of the people of this community and contribute to a positive outcome for the township in the long term.
Gail is a systemic thinker who is constantly joining the dots in terms of the Diepsloot Eco System. She is excited about the role technology can play in understanding all the stakeholders (community, leadership, service providers, donors, etc.) and the collective impact they seek to achieve.
