Imelda NgunzuManager, Market development at Mastercard
I am responsible for the product management of our Humanitarian & Development digital tools. I work hand in hand with the products and the sales teams in creating value for our users in marginalized communities. Recognizing that a successful innovation, especially meant for this segment, will only create impact if consistently used by the communities we innovated for, I work with an ecosystem of partners to create and implement strategies that are commercially sustainable and that ensure these digital tools are adopted and used by the communities we are targeting.
Until recently I was the Business Development Manager for Agriculture Innovation at the Mastercard Labs for Financial Inclusion, an innovation hub based in Nairobi, Kenya. In this role I oversaw the Go-to-market strategy formulation and implementation for Mastercard Farmer Network (MFN), our Agriculture platform, to agriculture value chain actors in Sub Saharan Africa and India.
I recently won the coveted East Africa Com’s Female innovator of the year Award, 2021 for my role in advancing MFN, within East Africa.
I am also the chair of Women Leadership Network, WLN, Nairobi Chapter. A Mastercard initiative with members across the globe that seeks to empower our women employees with an objective of creating the next generation of women leaders in our societies.
Prior to joining Mastercard, I spent over 4 years working for Vodacom Business as the Regional Sales Manager for Eastern Africa where I led a team that positioned Vodacom’s capabilities across Eastern Africa through partnerships, customer acquisition and retention, product development and marketing. I later joined Airtel Kenya as the Head of Corporate Sales and contributed to Airtel’s Enterprise division revenue and customer base acquisition.
I have an MBA(Distinction) from Durham University, UK, an Executive MBA in organizational leadership from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, a Bachelor of Commerce, Marketing from University of Nairobi and a Diploma in IT from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
I am a wife, a mother of two and a champion for women economic empowerment.
