Michal Szymanski
CEO at Mauritius Africa Fintech Hub


Michal was in the teaching profession for nearly 6 years, before being head hunted to join one of the leading incubators in South Africa. He was there for two years, and oversaw the screening and selection of all the entrepreneurs across all the industries and sectors. Michal personally interviewed, worked with, mentored over 6000 entrepreneurs, and was a guest speaker for MTN Business and Destiny Magazine workshops hosted across 9 provinces. Michal was part of the team that built incubators in the less well-known parts of South Africa, in places such as Rustenburg, Uitenhage, Witbank (eMalahleni) etc. working closely with both grass roots businesses, as well as established businesses. Michal was also involved in the JP Morgan business accelerator programme from the onset, screening and identifying high growth entrepreneurs. After this, Michal started this own business in the FMCG sector, and after 3 entrepreneurial years, returned back into the incubation
arena. Realising his passion for entrepreneurship, Michal joined another incubator as a Product Development Manager, working once again in small business incubation. Working with clients such as Telesure, VISA, Honeywell, Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCS) Bidvest Bank etc. Michal again had the opportunity to travel throughout South Africa and do presentations in 14 cities, on the challenges facing SMME’s. Before joining CiTi, Michal was part of a team that successfully built and developed B-BBEE strategies for multinational and JSE listed companies, as well as building a model for developing black industrialists. As Head of Incubation for CiTi, he interacts daily with SMME’s from all sectors and industries. Michal was also on the board of the WHEAT Trust, an organisation dedicated to upskilling and uplifting women through skills and entrepreneurial development. He was appointed as the CEO of the Mauritius Africa Fintech Hub to position the country as the global gateway for Africa.
