He was appointed as one of the first batch of 61 national experts by The Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) in 2018. Professor Wong plays an active role as technology pioneer and leader of CUHK in promoting knowledge transfer and collaboration with the industry.  He has published over 250 technical papers in different international journals and conferences and books. He is an experienced speaker at forums, seminars and workshops, ranging from colleges and universities, government bodies, professional associations to open talk for general public. Professor Wong also writes column for newspaper and magazines occasionally giving out his insight on different topics. Recently he has been interviewed by various local, mainland and regional media sharing his insight into the impact of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” on the tertiary education and the scientific and technology sector of Hong Kong.
Professor Wong was awarded the Medal of Honour (MH) by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for his valuable contribution to the development of information and communications technology in 2011, and invited to be a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in early 2018
