Nicolas BousquetHead of AI & Simulation Lab at EDF Research and Development
Profile
Nicolas Bousquet is an applied mathematician and researcher, specialized in statistical learning and probability theory. He graduated from ENSIMAG (Grenoble) in 2003 and defended his PhD in mathematics in 2006 at Paris XI University (Orsay).
He was a post-doctoral researcher at INRIA (Saclay; 2006-2007) then at Laval University (Québec; 2007-2008). Formerly expert research engineer at EDF (2008-2017), he has been the scientific director of Quantmetry from 2017 to 2020, while becoming in 2017 Associate Professor of mathematics at Sorbonne University.
At Quantmetry, he led numerous AI projets in health, industry and other domains. His team became notorious in 2018 for the first AI-based translation of the scientific textbook "Deep Learning" in the French language.
He is now Co-Head of the Joint Artificial Intelligence and Simulation Laboratory (SINCLAIR) at EDF R&D. His major research themes focus on the probabilistic treatment of uncertainty in numerical models, Bayesian modeling and statistical learning applied to the definition of artificial intelligence tools for industry, health and the environment. He published numerous research articles, co-authored two books and supervised several Ph.D students.
