Tommy TanCEO at TCL Capital
Dr Tommy Tan has had a distinguished 30-year career as an investment banker, having served as managing director and head of investment banking for several global bulge-bracket investment banking businesses in Asia including Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank. He started his boutique investment bank TC Capital in 2002 with his partners and, it is a leading advisory firm in Mergers & Acquisitions in Asia. Before his banking career, he was a game theorist with a PhD from Princeton University in 1984 and was an assistant professor until 1987 at the world-renowned centre of research in finance and economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
In the past four years, he has increasingly spent more time in two tech startups. He chairs Datarama, a business intelligence platform with large volumes of unstructured data, entity and relationship resolutions problems, requiring the application of web-crawlers, Natural Language Processing and a graph database to represent the knowledge base and generate reports. He is concurrently also CEO of Ceesuite, the developer of a mobile application that combines the best of machine learning, human expertise and crowd-sourced intelligence to help C-Level officers monitor the performance of their companies and evaluate opportunities. The use of AutoML allowed him to accelerate the development of a proprietary Big Data valuation model of companies - a function which lies at the very core of investment banking and stock markets.”
