THAM Jo Yew is the Founding CEO of ESP xMedia Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based deep-tech company founded with a vision to disrupt traditional broadcasting by harnessing the power of multi-camera, multi-location, actionable live video streaming. Its
flagship product, ESPxCloud, is a global cloud video platform that offers a full-suite solution for video ingestion, processing, storage, user-content access control, global delivery, and multi-viewport actionable player to empower any online video service providers to redefine their video production story-boarding and transform personalized live webcasts to becoming alive with actions.

ESP xMedia is a proud spin-off company from the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore. Jo Yew was a Senior Scientist in A*STAR where he headed the Scalable Multimedia Platform R&D Programme, and was the Principal Investigators of multiple R&D and commercialization projects on video processing, compression and delivery. Prior to joining A*STAR, Jo Yew was the Chief Streaming Architect/CTO of two start-ups in Silicon Valley, USA, where he pioneered streaming media platforms ahead of their times back in 1999-2002.

Jo Yew is a hands-on software platform architect and programmer, as well as a prolific video researcher with high-impact publications (over 2,300 Google citations) and granted US, PCT and Singapore patents. His research works on Diamond Search for video block-motion matching, multi-wavelet application framework, and scalable video codec are still actively cited by researchers worldwide. As an Adjunct Teaching Staff at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Jo Yew started the first ‘Image and Video Processing’ course, and had supervised many students including Ph.D. scholars.


Jo Yew graduated with his B.Eng. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, NUS. He was a recipient of the IEEE Region-10 Best Student Paper, and NUS Engineering Innovation Award.
