A Market Review

An intro to the Broadband Forum executive workshop that will review the developments in broadband networks and services over the last three years, and will look to develop a plan that brings open standards and the agility of ‘open source’ software together.

We will look at the changing business climate, the requirements of the operators, the promise of programmable networks, developing the new functionality and the process for migrating from the existing broadband network to the new one.

The workshop will have keynote addresses, followed by panels, on the four big issues in broadband:

  • Managing the Smart home
  • Making Wi-Fi carrier class
  • Software defined access
  • 5G and fixed mobile convergence

The majority of the sessions will be the panel discussions, with Q&A’s involving operators, vendors and software developers. The discussion is intended to be open and candid so that we can address the issues clearly and directly.

The session will incldue speakers from DT, Telecom Italia, Orange/Soft at Home, Arris, Nokia, Huawei, Juniper  Networks and Prpl Foundation.

Simple AO:The Road of Access Office Re-Architecture
  • Shi Wenjun - Marketing Director of FM Product Line, ZTE

New services/scenarios are booming, the access office re-architecture is a trend. ZTE’s opinions on the access office re-architecture:

1. The reasonable location of 5G DU deployment is in the access office, the existing FTTH infrastructure can be reused when FMC. WDM-PON is a good choice.

2. Light Cloud provides a better solution for high QoE sensitive services.

3. Access CDN helps decrease bottleneck of the uplink resources and optimize IPTV/OTT QoE.

4. High-integrated PNF and light cloud NFVI is the road for the convergence in the access office.

ZTE provides total solutions for the access office re-architecture.

A Revival of Network Innovation
  • Rahul Patel - Senior Vice President and General Manager, Connectivity, Qualcomm

In the telecom world, integration often goes hand in hand with progress. Just because you can integrate, doesn’t necessarily mean you should. For integration to be successful, the innovation paths merging must be mature, stable, and moving at a complimentary pace. That was the case for home gateways over the last decade. No longer. In this presentation, Rahul Patel will offer his unique insights on how ISPs might better understand the rapidly-evolving home broadband market. Patel will discuss how best to identify signals of further change and offer guidance for how to make the best strategic technology choices to respond to their consumers’ needs.
