Bernd Hesse brings over 30 years of accomplishments in the international telecommunication market. He is a veteran in the optical carrier Ethernet Metro- and Access market. He is the founder and chairman of the NGPON2 Forum, WDM PON Forum, Cloud Access Forum (CAF) Virtual Access Forum (VAF) and G.FAST Forum.
Before joining Calix as Senior Director Technology Development he was with Ericsson holding different positions executive positions in the office of the CTO (CU AT&T), Head of Engagement practices for Access and Transport. Before he was VP of BD and Marketing at Novera Optics where he led all international activities. Prior to Novera Optics, Bernd was the Director of Product Management, Marketing and Application Engineering at the optical Business Unit in Centillium Communications leading the introduction for EPON and transceiver chips. Before that he was Co-Founder and VP of Business Development in Optunix (now FiberZone Networks) a company based in Israel, which develops an optical switch component for managed optical distribution frame applications. During his time in CISCO he was a member of the CISCO EMEA CTO virtual team and part of the FTTx evaluation team analyzing all different PON vendors (APON, BPON, GPON and EPON). During his time in Germany Bernd held senior marketing positions with Raynet, where he was responsible for managing the first PON deployments (~1.3 M lines) in Germany
Bernd holds two patents and has a Master’s degree in Telecommunication from the University in Siegen, Germany.
