Studied in Kortrijk (B), Leuven (B), Groningen (NL) and Hull University.
Following his studies and military service as reserve officer, in 1992-1996 he worked as researcher for the University of Leuven (comparative legal studies, spatial development and data analysis) and as researcher for SADL Leuven in 1996-1997 (GIS analysis, webdevelopment). From 1997-2001 he worked as advisor regional economic development for the Flemish government, being one of four liaisons between regions and central government. In that period he obtained in-depth understanding of what makes regions tick and the value of cooperation and collaboration between industry, academics, government, the civil society and communities. In 2001 he started working for the Intermunicipal Cooperation Leiedal in Kortrijk (Belgium), initially in the domain of GIS and spatial planning, later in the domain of e-Government, broadband and Smart Cities. He currently is head of department of Leiedal and policy advisor to the region.
Filip Meuris also is co-founder of the MyMachine Foundation, acting worldwide, which is a unique collaboration between all educational levels where children, pupils and engineering students collaboratively work together to materialise inventions dreamed by children.
