Greg MeschFounder & Chief Executive Officer at CityFibre
With 35 years of communications infrastructure experience, Greg has founded and helped grow established fibre companies across five European countries. Part of the founding team of Esat Telecom in Ireland which went on to sell to BT for over €1bn, Greg went on to make the founding investment and joined the executive team as President and COO in Versatel Telecom NV. Operating across Holland, Belgium and Germany, Versatel established one of the largest fibre based infrastructures in those markets. Versatel was sold for over €2bn in 2002.
Greg and a team founded CityFibre in January 2011. CityFibre has since raised over £1.6bn in capital, completed six acquisitions and is building across 100 UK towns & cities with the stated ambition of covering c.30% of the UK market. In 2018 CityFibre was taken private by a group led by Antin Infrastructure Partners and West Street Infrastructure Partners (funds manged by Goldman Sachs) for £538 million.
Greg studied mathematics and software engineering at the University of Colorado and received his MBA from the University of Denver in 1990. He has been awarded the Charles Kao Lifetime Achievement Award by the Fibre To The Home (FTTH) Council for his contribution worldwide to broadband development.
