Dr. Prabhakar Chitrapu
Lead Member of Technical Staff, AT&T at & Chair - TECH & 5G Working Group, SCF


Prabhakar works for AT&T in the Converged Access & Device Technology organization as a Lead MTS, and is currently focused on 5G, Edge Computing & Small Cell Networks.  In particular, he works on the Architectures, New Technology Trials, Productization and Long Term Strategy.

Prior to AT&T, he worked at InterDigital Communications, Lockheed Martin, Dialogic, Drexel University and Bharat Electronics Ltd.

Prabhakar has also been engaged with Small Cell Forum for several years, where he presently is the Chair of the TECH & 5G Working Group, leading a number of work items spanning 5G-Era Use Cases, 5G-RAN & Small Cell Architectures & Open Specifications, Edge Computing, Private LTE/5G, SON & Orchestration etc.  He has also spearheaded collaborations across other industry forums, such as OAI, TIP, ORAN, ONAP, CBRS-A, ETSI-MEC etc.

Earlier, he also held leadership positions in ETSI-SES, GSMA & IETF.

Prabhakar has also taught graduate level courses in Wireless Communications, Signal processing & Computer Networks as an Adjunct Professor at Villanova University, Drexel University and University of Pennsylvania.

He has been awarded over 50 patents in various areas of wireless communications, and published over 50 peer-reviewed papers in the areas of communications, signal processing & system theory. He has also authored a book on “Wideband TDD”, published by John Wiley in 2004.

Prabhakar holds a PhD from Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, MS from Philips International Institute, Eindhoven The Netherlands and BTech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India.
