Jeff Shafer
AVP, Edge Solutions & Portfolio Transformation at AT&T Business


Jeff Shafer leads product strategy, development and lifecycle for AT&T’s fast growing Virtual Edge business, which includes AT&T FlexWareSM and SD-WAN solutions, as well as managed services for routers, IP VPNs, WAN optimization, visibility and wired/wireless LAN. Additionally, Jeff has product responsibility for integration of the Vyatta® Network Operating System acquisition. With this broad portfolio spanning both traditional and new services, Jeff creates value for AT&T’s customers by aiding their shift toward flexible, software based solutions at the edge. Previously, Jeff was founder and product development lead for AT&T Network on Demand, a strategic initiative to transform the customer experience and operational efficiency of AT&T’s network services. 

Using an agile development approach, Jeff and his team rolled out software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) capabilities for AT&T Switched Ethernet, AT&T Dedicated Internet and AT&T FlexWare, garnering 25+ industry awards along the way. Earlier roles at AT&T have included business strategy and market development with focus on mobile cloud solutions, managed security and identity, and wireline/wireless integration. Jeff began his AT&T career with over eight years in product management for cloud, hosting and application services. As cloud product director, Jeff brought AT&T’s Compute and Storage as a Service offerings to market and launched the innovative networking approach that evolved into AT&T NetBond® for Cloud, a premier secure cloud connectivity solution for business. 

Prior to AT&T, Jeff directed product management for an award-winning optical edge router at Lucent Technologies. He has also worked with early stage start-up companies in strategy, marketing and web application development. Jeff began his career as a Military Intelligence officer in the U.S. Army, where he received the Hughes Trophy from the Secretary of the Army as the top-ranked of 3,500+ officer peers. Jeff holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Arizona State University. He is based in Dallas, Texas.
