Chief Technology Officer, Global Service Provider at World Wide Technology

Profile

Joe Wojtal is the CTO for the Global Service Provider (GSP) business at World Wide Technology (WWT).  In this role, Joe is responsible for the strategy and technical execution of WWT’s $5B GSP business.  He leads over fifty Consulting Systems Engineers (CSEs) and Consulting Systems Architects (CSAs) and builds and maintains WWT’s GSP partnerships.

In 2015, after twenty-one years at Cisco, Joe joined WWT, Cisco’s largest partner.  Since joining WWT, Wojtal has been focused on creating new WWT capabilities in the areas of Network Function Virtualization (NFV), hardware/software disaggregation, DevOps, and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC).  As service providers virtualize and disaggregate their networks, Joe wants WWT to be the place where they validate new, multi-vendor solutions at speed and deploy them at scale.

Prior to joining WWT, Joe was Cisco’s VP of Development Solutions, Services, and Operations under Cisco’s Chief Development Officer (CDO).  In that role, he was responsible for strategic planning for Cisco’s Development organization, consisting of $6B in R&D spend and 28,000 engineers.  In addition, Joe partnered with Cisco’s Chief Strategy Officer to identify and execute partnerships and acquisitions in support of the CDO’s development strategy.  Wojtal also founded Cisco’s Solution’s Development Unit (SDU), which designed and implemented cross-organization solutions consisting of hardware and software from each of Cisco’s Business Groups and partners.  These Cisco Validated Designs (CVDs) delivered over $2B in revenue in Cisco’s FY14.

Before Joe joined Cisco’s development organization, he was responsible for Cisco’s 4000 systems engineers (SEs) in the Global Sales Operation which delivered $18B in revenue in Cisco’s FY04.  In that role, he was responsible for the alignment of the technology strategy between the global sales teams and the development organization.  While leading Cisco’s SE organization, Joe introduced the concept of consultative solutions selling to ensure Cisco’s customers were achieving their intended business outcomes.

Prior to joining Cisco, Wojtal was a Captain in the United States Air Force where he worked on communications and radar systems development and acquisition.

Wojtal has a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Cum Laude) from Washington University.  He’s a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu, US engineering honoraries.
