Chris AspellDirector of Strategy, Roadmap and Innovation at Liberty Global
Profile
Chris started his career with BT, moving into Network Architecture roles with many top companies including Galileo, France Telecom and AT&T. He entered the world of Cable in 1998 joining the newly formed NTL as a Network Architect. During the next few years NTL acquired many smaller cable companies and he grew the IP network by successfully integrating these onto a standard IP Core Network and rolling out unified services to each. His team managed the transition as NTL and Telewest merged into Virgin Media, creating one of the UK’s largest networks.
With Liberty Global’ s purchase of Virgin Media Chris’s role widened as he took on the Architecture of the Liberty Global’ s Transport infrastructure across Europe within the Liberty Global Chief Architects Office.
Moving to a role which focuses on Network Strategy, Chris has taking on the challenge to create a strategy and roadmap which will define a next generation network across Europe. This comes as we hit an exciting transition period where networking and software start to come together to ultimately make the network service aware and as new open standards drive innovation, disaggregation and change the fundamental rules of networking.
