Cyril De Greve
Strategic Partnerships & Business Intelligence at ESSMA

Cyril will be speaking about the impact of digitalisation and technology on fan experience, from his experience and perspective at ESSMA as Strategic Partnership and Business Intelligence professional. His presentation includes European best practices on how to create a convenient fan experience!

We spoke with Cyril in the lead up to the Connected Stadium Summit and here's what he shared with us:

What are you most looking forward to with regards to participating at Connected Stadium Summit in Amsterdam?

"To see how far we have come so far in the digital transformation journey. Which technologies will and can play a relevant role in the stadium industry and which clubs and stadiums are taking the lead in this process."

You'll be speaking at the event about the impact of digitilisation and technology on fan experience - Could you give us a short snapshot of the key takeaways or unique aspects of your presentation?

"My presentation will be very much focused on the expectations from the fans, because at the end, they are the core of everything we do in regards to fan experience. The presentation will start from the needs and demands of the fans, showcasing how new technology can contribute to these demands and further improve the overall experiences. It will be a very practical and tangible presentation, sharing best practices from our members. That’s what ESSMA is all about."

How will the fan experience of sports events be different in 10 years from now?

"The disruption will have an impact on all industries, so sports and events will not escape from this. I see a couple of major trends: we’ll be heading more and more towards an entertainment industry, where pre- and post-match activities become a vital part of the overall experience. Secondly, a data driven approach will enable clubs and stadiums to individualize their communication and offer towards fans and visitors. To conclude, technology will not only enable an enhanced and enriched experience inside the stadium, it will also create opportunities to connect fans from all around the world and connect them to the stadium."

What is your favourite sport, and why?

"I’m a huge sports fan in general, so not easy to pick out one specific sport. However, the unpredictability of football is unique. Yesterday the first round in the Belgian cup was played, where a 2nd amateur division club won from a professional first division team."
