What is Project Kairos?
Kairos (καιρός) is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment).
Project Kairos is the umbrella brand for Informa’s community built for startups, and in particular connecting investors with startups.
Our aim through Project Kairos as part of Internet of Things World & Connected & Autonomous Vehicles is to provide startups with their supreme moment – the one which kicks off the transition from IoT newbie to dominant industry player.
In 2017, Project Kairos helped 77 startups meet top investors and enhance their business prospects as part of the Internet of Things World & Connected & Autonomous Vehicles event.
What is Startup City?
Startup City is part of Project Kairos and located on the Internet of Things World & Connected & Autonomous Vehicles expo floor. This special area will be packed with the startup pods as we highlight 100+ startups disrupting the IoT space. Featuring startup pitches on the Startup Stage in front of top investors and the Innovation of Things Awards ceremony, this is always one of our most popular areas.
What is included in the packages?
STARTUP PACK $1500 (PRE-SEED, SEED, OR SERIES A FUNDING TO QUALIFY):
2 Day Pod in Startup City (May 16 - 17), 1 Everything Pass to attend Internet of Things World & Connected and Autonomous Vehicles ($3,195 value), 1 Entry to Compete in the Innovation of Things Award Pitch-off Contest, Access to Startup Academy, arranged meetings with investors, unlimited expo hall passes
What is Startup Academy?
Startup Academy takes place on May 15th and features presentations on how to perfect your pitch, building an IoT business, securing investment, legal advice plus much more.
Please bring any employees or coworkers to this workshop and we will grant them access to attend as well.
What is the Innovation of Things Award?
The Innovation of Things Award is the grand prize for the winner of our pitching competition.
Startups will pitch on the Startup stage as part of their Startup Pack, judged by a panel of investors & leaders for each vertical. The best of each vertical is automatically entered into the final pitchoff for the Innovation of Things Award on the afternoon of May 17th.
The winning startup will be rewarded with fantastic exposure through post event marketing activities and mentions on social media, press releases, and emails.
What are the verticals for the pitching competition?
Each startup is assigned into one of nine verticals to pitch in over 2 days of the show:
- Industrial IoT
- Consumer IoT (Smart Homes, Wearables)
- AR & VR
- Enterprise Innovation
- AI & Machine Learning
- Blockchain & Fintech
What should I bring to showcase in Startup City?
You must provide:
- Laptop and/or Monitor
- Brochures, flyers, demo materials, awards, or any marketing collateral to decorate your tabletop and promote your business
- Shared Wi-Fi
- 5AMPS shared of electricity
- All signage for pod
- 1 meter counter for displays, laptop, etc.

Can I bring other people to help with our pod in Startup City?
Yes! Please have them register for a free expo pass here and they can help run your pod in Startup City, participate in your pitch, and get access to the features on the expo floor.
If you want to purchase additional passes to attend the full conference, please can can do so for $795 each. Just get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org to secure your place.
How do I get in touch with attending investors before the event?
The information you fill out as part of your entry form (included in the Welcome email once you sign up) will be forwarded to our participating investors and they will reach out if they are interested in setting up a meeting.
What will my pod look like?

Do I have to participate in the pitchoff?
No, but please let us know if you do not wish to present.
