Alphonce Shiundu is the country editor for Africa Check in Kenya. Africa Check is the continent’s leading independent, non-partisan organisation that assesses claims made in the public arena using journalistic skills and the latest publicly available evidence in order to correct false or misleading information and infuse honesty and accountability in public debate.

He is an award-winning author, journalist and editor who has worked in Kenya’s mainstream media houses specifically The Nation Media Group and The Standard Group Plc for a total of 12 years, before joining Africa Check in 2017 to set up and run the Nairobi office. He has expertise in fact-checking research, open-source intelligence, digital multimedia journalism, development communication, and publishing technologies. He has conducted dozens of fact-checking training workshops, seminars and masterclasses and made presentations on fact-checking and evidence-based policymaking to hundreds of government officials, researchers, journalists, students and the civil society, in different countries in Africa and in Europe.  

He writes on public policy, legislation, and politics. His work and views on mis-dis-information, politics and development have been featured/published in local news media such as The Standard, the Nation, NTV, The Nairobian, KTN News, Akoma, Spice FM, among others, and in major international media platforms including the BBC, CNN, The Africa Report, Aljazeera, D+C Magazine, Quartz, the Financial Times, the New York Times, ChinAfrica Magazine. He holds a Masters in Media and Development from the University of Westminster, London and a Bachelors in Information Sciences from Moi University in Kenya.  

In his free time, when he is not tweeting @Shiundu, or writing, he is most likely climbing mountains.
