Bitrina DiyamettExecutive Director at Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Research Organization (STIPRO)
Bitrina Diyamett is a researcher and a consultant in science, technology and innovation (STI)policy, with over 25 years’ experience. Her major interest and areas of expertise include national and sectoral systems of innovation; development of innovative clusters and the role of governments, academia and the private sector; foreign direct investments and local technological capabilities; STI indicators; and linking knowledge to policy.
In 2009, Bitrina founded the Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Research Organization (STIPRO), an independent think tank examining STI policy research in Africa, where she is currently Executive Director. Prior to this, she was a Program Officer for the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology
She has consulted for the Government of Tanzania, UN Agencies such as UNIDO and UNESCO, Development Partners such as SIDA and the Government of Finland, African Regional Bodies such as NEPAD.
Bitrina has published widely on the topics of scientific research and innovation and policy – both in academic journals and book chapters, and non-academic outlets such as blogs, newspapers and training materials, relevant to policy.
Bitrina obtained her PhD in Development Studies from the University of Dar es Salaam, with major focus on innovation and development, in 2010.
