Michael KizaProgramme Management Expert at United Nations Industrial Development Organization/EACREEE
Michael Kiza joined The East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Efficiency (EACREEE) in January 2017 as the Programme Management Expert, seconded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Prior to joining EACREEE, Mr Kiza worked as a Programme Management Officer at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Department of Technical Cooperation (2010–16). While at the IAEA, he led the development and implementation of several national technical cooperation projects for Angola, Cameroon, Eritrea, Mauritius and Seychelles as well as regional projects – aimed at utilizing peaceful applications of nuclear science and technologies to support sustainable socio-economic development.
As a native Ugandan, Mr Kiza also served Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development as a Senior Energy Officer – Efficiency (2004-07) and Head of Nuclear Energy Unit, National Liaison Officer for Technical Cooperation between the Government of Uganda & IAEA and National Coordinator for African Regional Cooperative Agreement on Research, Development & Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (2007-09). He has served in various capacities in the private sector before joining the public sector, where he was instrumental in promoting industrial energy efficiency.
Mr Kiza brings rich experience from the private and public sectors and international organizations with respect to partnership building and programme development and management – crucial for promoting universal access to sustainable energy at regional level.
Mr Kiza holds a BSc from Makerere University, Uganda and an MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.
