Dan Lyon is a Senior Principal Consultant with Synopsys, one of the world’s largest consulting firms on software security, where he leads the embedded & IoT security consulting practice. Dan has over 20 years experience in product development building the IoT before it even had a name. As the practice lead, he has provided unique security solutions on many different critical systems in a variety of industries, including automotive, government identity, financial, industrial control, medical device, pharmaceutical and healthcare. Dan’s primary technical focus is on secure architecture and design where he has had provided security expertise to a variety of Class I/II/III medical device systems, including implants, patient monitoring systems, operating room systems, and laboratory diagnostic systems.
Prior to Synopsys, Dan spent 18 years building medical device systems and software for implant, clinician programmers, patient monitors and medical device network services. He performed software, system and security engineering on multiple projects from feasibility to market release.
Dan has contributed to AAMI’s Medical Device Security working group including AAMI TIR 57, IEEE’s Building Code for Medical Device Software Security, IEEE’s Design Flaws and Security Considerations for Automotive and Telematics Systems, and the Archimedes Center for Medical Device Security.
Dan holds BA degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Luther College and has held numerous security certifications.
