Peter JohnVice-Chancellor and Chief Executive at University of West London
Professor Peter John CBE, is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the University of West London. Prior to that, he was Dean, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Plymouth. Peter began his academic career at the University of Reading and then held various posts at the University of Bristol. Peter is a leading educationist and his latest book: Dimensions of Marketization in Higher Education explores the impact of the market on academic knowledge and identity.
In 2015 he was a finalist for the Guardian’s most Inspiring University Leader of the Year Award and in 2017 led the University of West London to be awarded inter alia the Times Higher Outstanding Senior Leadership Team as well as being shortlisted, a year later, for the prestigious University of the Year. He was one of the founding members of the Association of Modern Universities (Million+) and continues to serve on their executive board. He also sits on board of London Higher, is chair of Access HE - an organisation that promotes access and opportunity, and is the founding chair of the Learning Analytics Board (UK). Regionally, he is a member of the Local Strategic Partnership Board for Ealing and was recently awarded a CBE for services to higher education in the new year’s honours list.
