Rasantha Hettithanthrige

Chief Technology Officer at Mobitel

Currently Rasantha Hettithanthrige holds the position of Chief Technology Officer at Mobitel the National Mobile Communications Services Provider. He has a total of 30 years of experience in Mobile Industry to date.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from University of Moratuwa and a member of the IEEE, IET (UK) and Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL).

He was instrumental in trialling and rolling out Mobile Communication technologies from 3.5G, 4G, 4.5G and 5G for Mobitel, recording few FIRSTS in the South Asian Region.

He serves as a permanent member of the SL-TMOBITEL’s “Group Technical Sub-Committee”. Apart from that Rasantha serves in Industrial Consultative Boards of Universities on invitation and continue to do mentorships for Engineering Undergraduates. In addition, he speaks in International Conferences on MBB Strategy, Rural Communications and Inclusivity & other Telecom related topics.

Mobitel has won many international and local awards under Rasantha’s leadership, such as PIM (USA) Project Excellence Awards for two years (under USD 100m category), Best Innovation in Telecommunications Award by Word Innovation Congress 2022, Asian Technology Award for Telco Sector 2022 by Asian Business Review and a number of Engineering Excellence Awards by Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL).
