I started my telecoms career in 2000 when we were exploring what 3G could do for business and the new exciting project was to deliver a “turn by turn” navigation product on to a 3G handset. The business case was very sketchy with feedback like: “why would you want a mapping tool on such a little screen as that when every car has a paper map and mobile data is so expensive?”
I started my role as a Premium Rate compliance manager in 2010 when the UK had a few WAP site services and loads of 09x voice calling services advertised in the back of red top newspapers. “Why do we need a compliance monitoring program” I was asked.
9 years on Vodafone UK continues to deliver a 24/7 advertising compliance program using a several different tools and we believe the virtual electronic fence we put around our customers keeps them safer but we know we need to keep adapting fast because the technological world works does and the cyber criminals have big businesses with aggressive growth plans.
