Anthony JamesData Scientist / Senior Engineer at Southern California Edison
Anthony works in a cross-collaborative innovation ecosystem with internal organizational units and external partners such as the National Laboratories (U.S. Dept of Energy), technology companies and start-ups to advance new and innovative technologies focused on solving grid integration and analytics challenges resulting from integrating clean energy renewables and electric vehicles, and mitigating climate change impacts through the application of advanced analytics and data science, big data, artificial intelligence, smart meter (IoT) data, storage, distributed energy resources, platform technologies and blockchain.
Anthony has been a Senior Engineer/Data Scientist for approximately 5 years at Southern California Edison, working out of the Advanced Technology Labs in the Transmission & Distribution business unit. He is also the distribution grid analytics lab lead supporting the execution of internal and external R&D efforts. Southern California Edison serves 38% of California’s population (15 million customers). Anthony has received recognition for his work recently, receiving SCE’s Integrated Innovation and Modernization (IIM) Certification of Award, Celebration of Excellence award in 2018, and has co-published IEEE papers related to novel applications of IoT data.
Prior to SCE, Anthony spent over 17 years as a Consultant focused on advisory, analytics and engineering services, as an university Adjunct Lecturer in information systems, and in lead engineering, engineering management, and engineer roles for companies that have been wholly or partially acquired by Fortune 500 companies or competitors. He has with teams developed many hi-tech and infrastructure projects with related work in renewable energy. Anthony started his career, developing, building and advancing cutting edge digital signal processing hardware tools, software and systems, and mechanical automation tools and systems.
Anthony received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, with a minor in Management and has attained advanced certifications in software architecture, data science, energy, engineering and product development. Anthony holds an MBA from the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine and volunteers as an advisor with IEEE Smart Villages and as a subject matter expert for EPRI’s energy Incubatenergy Labs start-up challenge.
