Matthew leads Comcast’s civic engagement, community investment and government affairs portfolio for the company’s Greater Chicago Region. His work is focused initiatives that draw on access to technology to increase community vitality and advance economic opportunity. Prior to Comcast, Matthew served as the founding President and CEO of the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC), where he developed public-private partnerships to advance the Midwest’s profile and standing as a global center for innovation. Under his leadership, the ISTC helped attract more than $100 million for scientific research and commercialization activities in energy, life sciences, manufacturing and other sectors, established the Illinois Innovation Council, developed data.illinois.gov and launched the data-driven Illinois Innovation Index. Matthew is also the founder of the Illinois Science and Energy Innovation Fund (dba Energy Foundry), a $22+ million investment fund focused on promising smart grid companies. He has also worked in the New York City Mayor’s Office of Operations, the United States Senate and the Office of the Governor, State of Illinois. He is active in numerous civic organizations including 1871/Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Club of Chicago. He holds an MPA from New York University and BA from the University of Iowa.
