Case Study: Making higher quality wines from more sustainable vineyards with IoT Technologies

Delicato Family Vineyards is one of the fastest growing wine companies in the world. Family-owned and operated in California since the company’s founding in 1924, Delicato Family Vineyards is fostering innovation, quality and environmental stewardship. Through its viticulture program, the company is working towards decreasing its water footprint while irrigating its vineyards to increase the wine quality.

By integrating their soil and atmospheric environments, grapevines reflect the prevailing conditions in growth, physiology and berry composition. In absence of rainfall during the growing season, irrigation becomes the single most important parameter to be managed and can be better piloted using remote sensing. The resulting datasets allow us to bring the right amount of water at the right time.

In this session, we will present how the vineyard data integrates from connected devices, airborne imagery and electronic surveys. We will look at the IoT enabled decision making in the vineyard and its impact on achieving great sustainable wines.
