Juan Carlos ZunigaStandards & IP Strategy at Sigfox
Juan Carlos Zuniga leads the standardization and IP strategies for SIGFOX, a global IoT Network Operator and Service Provider. He also helps as Technical Program Manager for the IoT-based Seismic Alert project in Mexico of the SIGFOX Foundation – an organization working on using IoT for humanitarian causes.
Juan Carlos is currently co-chair of the IETF Internet Area WG, and an active member of different Privacy, Security and IoT programs at the IAB, ISOC and IEEE. He was chairman of the IEEE 802 Privacy SG, member of the IEEE 802 Executive Committee, and he has actively participated in other standards organizations such as ETSI, 3GPP and W3C.
He has vast experience positioning technology to develop business, drive standards, and ensure market adoption. He is highly skilled in leading technology development in the areas of IoT, Data Privacy, NFV/SDN, 5G and Wi-Fi. Juan Carlos has served as Guest Editor of IEEE Communications Magazine, and he is inventor of more than 70 granted USPTO/EPO patents.
Before joining Sigfox, Juan Carlos was leading the networking standardization activities at InterDigital. Previously, he worked with Harris Communications Canada, Nortel Networks UK, and Kb/Tel Mexico. Juan Carlos received his engineering degree from the UNAM, Mexico, and his MSc from the Imperial College London, UK.
