Eric Burger

Technical Programme Office Director at Next G Alliance

Eric Burger is the Technical Program Director of the Next G Alliance and Research Director of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative. At Virginia Tech, he has appointments as Research Professor of NextG Security in CCI, Research Professor of Public Policy (by courtesy), affiliate faculty of Computer Science at Virginia Tech, and affiliations with the VT National Security Institute and Wireless@VT. He served in government as the Assistant Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and as the Chief Technology Officer of the Federal Communications Commission. Prior to academia, he was CTO of a number of public and private network equipment companies. He has a SBEE, MBA, and PhD in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Katholieke Universiteit te Leuven, and IIT.
