William Britton became Cal Poly’s Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer in January of 2016. He serves as director of the California Cybersecurity Institute, cofounder of the Digital Transformation Hub (DxHub), and the Paso Airport Commissioner.
Britton’s ambitious modernization projects are responsible for Cal Poly’s successful transition to a cloud-based campus data center which was instrumental in ensuring Cal Poly could swiftly scale to virtual learning. In 2021, Mr. Britton was the recipient of the Tambellini Technology CIO Award.
Mr. Britton has more than 30 years of experience in IT leadership, cybersecurity, space, and defense. He was previously at Pasons Corporation, where he served as the Vice President for Cybersecurity Strategy. He was first introduced to cybersecurity during his 20-year career as an Intelligence Officer, Electronic Warfare Officer, and Director of Misson Planning in the United States Air Force.
