Brendan Chukwuebuka UgwuHead Trade Policy Advocacy & West African Region à CAYA
Brendan Chukwuebuka Ugwu is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria with experience in Commercial Law Practice and Trade Policy Advocacy specifically focusing on giving legal advice to youth owned SMEs and promoting youth inclusive Trade Policy implementation that enables youth-owned businesses succeed in Africa through advocacy.
In 2020, Brendan emerged as one of the ten top finalists among the 400 youths across the 54 countries in Africa that participated in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Youth Month Policy Challenge: Innovating Africa’s transformation through AfCFTA organized by the African Union and United Nations Development Programme. As the Nigerian and West African regional youth representative, Brendan developed National Strategy for making AfCFTA work for women and youth using AfCFTA implementation template. Sequel to his contribution to the program, he received a certificate of achievement from the AU and UNDP on making AfCFTA work for women and youth in Africa and for successfully undergoing Master Class on AfCFTA .
Currently, Brendan is the Director of Legal Compliance at Graicia Global Limited in Nigeria and the Head of Trade and Investment Policy Advocacy of the Council of African Youth Advocates (CAYA) where he initiates programs that mentor and promote youth participation in trade policy development in Africa, interprets trade laws and offers legal advice to Small Business Enterprises respectively.
Brendan, holds LLb in Laws and BSc in Public Administration respectively from the University of Nigeria Nsukka where he emerged as the best graduating student of the year. He obtained a certificate of Advocacy and Trade Policy Reforms from the International Trade Center, SME Academy, Geneva.
Brendan is driven by the passion of promoting youth inclusive economic growth in Africa through sharing trade opportunities and mentoring African youths to participate in trade and actively contribute to trade policy development in Africa.
