Orange MEA gets new CEO

Orange's Middle East and Africa (OMEA) division has a new leader, with Jérôme Hénique taking over as CEO on July 1, 2022.

Hénique is currently director of operations and deputy CEO of the MEA region and will now take over from Alioune Ndiaye, who the French operator says wishes to concentrate on his role as chairman of the board of directors.

Vodacom targets enterprise, fintech growth with Egypt purchase

Vodacom sees huge growth opportunity in both mobile financial services and the enterprise market in adding Egypt to its portfolio through acquisition of a controlling stake in Vodafone Egypt.

Mobile tech helping Africa's farmers face climate change

Driving inclusive access to digital technology, especially mobile-based technology, will help Africa's agricultural sector mitigate the impact of climate change, according to a new report from Vodacom, Vodafone, Safaricom, and the United Nations Capital Development Fund called: Towards a Connected Climate: Leveraging digital technologies to break the cycle of food insecurity in sub-Saharan Africa.

Africa accelerated mobile money growth in 2021

Mobile money transaction values grew 39% in 2021 in Africa to US$701.4 billion – making up about 70% of global transaction values which hit over $1 trillion for the first time in 2021, according to GSMA's 2022 State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money.

Telecom Egypt gets $167M from EIB for 4G expansion
