Head of Digital Birmingham at Digital Birmingham, Birmingham City Council
Raj Mack is head of Digital Birmingham, a city wide partnership which aims to accelerate digital investment and opportunities for both businesses and citizens. Its key areas of focus include; attracting digital infrastructure and investment, improving digital skills and capabilities, and stimulating digital innovation and the smart city activities. As Head, Raj is responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of projects and programmes ranging from digital infrastructure, such as ultrafast broadband, next generation wireless, to innovative and cutting edge projects, activities and applications to support both public services, businesses as well as increasing digital inclusion for citizens.
Raj works with local, national and international partners and organisations to shape and influence digital and smart city strategies and policies and has led on the implementation of the Roadmap for a Smarter Birmingham Action plan. Raj is responsible for developing the digital and smart city strategy for Birmingham City Council and is working with the Local Enterprise Partnership and the West Midlands Combined Authority to further develop digital and smart city opportunities. Raj and his team provide the governance arrangements for the Birmingham Smart City Commission. The Commission is chaired by a Cabinet Member and is made up of national and local experts all working in collaboration to deliver the city’s a smart city vision and its digital and data economy opportunities.
