Amy Kazmin
South Asia Bureau Chief at Financial Times


Amy Kazmin is the Financial Times’ award-winning South Asia bureau chief. She was educated at the University of California, Berkeley and the London School of Economics, and holds a B.A. in history and an MSc in economic history.

After several years at her hometown newspaper, the Los Angeles Times, she spent eight years as the Financial Times’ Bangkok-based South-east Asia regional correspondent, covering Thailand, Vietnam, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

In 2008, she was posted to India as the FT’s New Delhi-based South Asia correspondent, and in in 2016, she was appointed South Asia bureau chief. 

During her nearly two-and-a-half decades in Asia, Ms Kazmin has travelled widely to document the region’s economic, political and social transformations, and challenges. She has interviewed many of the region’s political and business leaders, including the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama. 

In addition to her writing for the FT, Ms Kazmin has contributed to publications such as The New Republic, Asian Affairs, The Diplomat, and been interviewed many times by CNN, the BBC, and other global broadcast outlets.

Her work has won many awards including the Human Rights Press Award; the London-based Work Foundation’s Feature Writer of the Year for her coverage of India’s labor market, India’s prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism award. She numerous citations from the Society of Publishers of Asia.
