Weng Wanyi

Superintendent of Police, Assistant Director at Next Generation Systems Directorate

A 10-year veteran of the Singapore Police Force, Superintendent Weng is currently Assistant Director of the force’s newest unit, the Next Generation Systems Directorate (NGSD). NGSD is a strategic office set up to drive the organisation’s transformation through the implementation of digital technologies. Harnessing the power of big data, automation and ultimately artificial intelligence, this outfit aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of policing in Singapore. The office is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of new capabilities, from conceptualisation down to change management to ensure police officers successfully transition to new digital modes of working.

Superintendent Weng has previously done stints in investigation, strategic planning and in traffic police where she looked into the emerging issue of autonomous vehicles and its impact on road safety. She was also the first commanding officer of Singapore’s 35th neighbourhood police centre, where she oversaw the creation of a police precinct in a fast-growing residential and commercial district.

Passionate about gender diversity and women’s issues, Superintendent Weng is a founding member of the Police Women’s Committee. An official committee within the Singapore Police Force, the Committee advises on HR strategies to improve the recruitment and retention of female officers. She is also a member of the Young Women’s Leadership Connection, a national platform driving the development of women leaders through mentorship and community engagement.

Superintendent Weng holds a MSc in the History of International Relations from the London School of Economics, and is the proud mother of an impossible toddler.
