Ruben van der Leun
Software Developer at KLM

Profile

Ruben van der Leun has been a developing software for as long as he can remember, starting out with a few lines of code in GW-Basic, but mostly focusing on web-based technology these days. His passion for VR was ignited when he got to try his first headset at the HCC Beurs in 1995. It's an experience that stuck with him throughout the years, and when the first VR headsets started to become available for consumers, he immediately hopped on.

His initial experience was with cheaper variants like the Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear before moving on to devices like the Oculus Quest and the HTC Vive. In general, this has resulted in him using these tools to spread the word about VR to the masses. In the past years, he has given multiple talks at conferences and meetups about WebVR, often using live development demos to showcase how easy it is to develop VR experiences that can run in the browser.

By day, Ruben is currently working for the KLM, having been a part of three separate projects within the company. By night, he works on several open-source projects, most of them WebXR-focused.
