SENTECH is a Schedule 3B State Owned Company (SOC) operating in the Information,Communications and Telecommunications (ICT) sector. The company’ sole shareholder isgovernment, represented by the Minister of Department of Telecommunications and PostalServices. In accordance with its mandate as a SOC, SENTECH’s strategy is guided by and aligned with government’s Medium-Term Strategy Focus (MTSF) goals and corporate objectives as set by the Board
SENTECH started as a technical division of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC),responsible for the corporation’s signal distribution services. In 1992, the Division was corporatized as SENTECH, a wholly owned subsidiary of the corporation. In 1996, the SENTECH Act 63 of 1996 was amended, converting SENTECH into a separate public company, responsible for providingbroadcasting signal distribution services as a ‘common carrier’ to licensed television and radio broadcasters.
In 2002, following the deregulation of the telecommunications sector, SENTECH was granted two additional licenses allowing the company to provide international voice-based telecommunications and multimedia services. These licenses were subsequently converted into an Individual Electronic Communications Network Service (I-ECNS) and an Individual Electronic Communications Service (I-ECS) licensed in terms of the Electronic Communications Act, 2005 (Act No.36 of 2005) (ECA).

BROADCASTING AND MEDIA
Radio Signal Distribution
FM (Frequency Modulation) provides a high quality of signal integrity and is thus favoured amongst sound broadcasters. Power configurations from 1 W (Watt) to 20 kW (kilowatt) and the use of SENTECH high sites provide the ability to provide customized coverage. Serves public, commercial and community broadcasters.
MW (Medium Wave) provides large geographic coverage per transmitter. Power configurations vary from 1kW to 100kW. Serves public, commercial and community broadcasters.
SW (Short Wave) high powered transmitters provides coverage across the continent of Africa. Power configurations vary from 100 kW to 250 kW. Serves public and international broadcasters.

Audio processing (to enhance the sound quality), RDS (Radio Data System to show station name and singer/song title), STL (Studio to Transmitter Linking) etc.
DIRECT-TO-HOME SATELLITE DISTRIBUTION PLATFORM SERVICES
FREEVISION is a Universal Access Direct-To-Home Satellite (DTH-S) platform service that compliments the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) transmitter network to ensure 100% access to digital broadcasting services, particularly in areas not covered by the DTT transmitter network.
SENTECH operates the FREEVISION platform service on ‘open access and interoperability’principle, thus making the platform available to multichannel and single channel Free-To-View (FTV), Free-To-Air (FTA) or Subscription broadcasting service operators. FREEVISION operates on the Intelsat 20 satellites located at 68.5°E orbital position - the largest video neighborhood inSub-Saharan Africa, with an estimated 60 million viewers.
SENTECH’s Business Television (BTV) is a satellite broadcasting information distribution service that can offer cost effective solutions for business communication, education and training. This is a point-to-multipoint, real-time communications tool, irrespective of distance and/or location, within the satellite footprint. It is typically used for business-to-business communication.
SENTECH’s Business Television brings the power of this dynamic medium into the boardroom,office, and store or wherever it is needed around the country and around the world.
Business Radio is a satellite-based service that offers organisations the ability to educate, entertain and inform customers with powerful in-store music and messaging services. Business Radio provides the customer with the ability to send the same message in real time to all its outlets in a cost-effective manner.
SENTECH offers leasing of facilities on more than 220 of its transmitter high sites for various communication services. The high sites are situated in different locations with different heights to fit your coverage needs throughout South Africa.

With its vast experience in managing a plurality of different types of networks from broadcasting to telecommunications, SENTECH has built up a strong capability in network design, deployment, operation and maintenance. These skills and technical capabilities are the ideal foundation to offer managed network services to other owners of similar networks.
SENTECH aims to productize its skills, resources and services into a Managed Network Servicesoffering. Customers will be able to contract SENTECH to manage their networks depending on their own resources and communications support needs. This will allow the customer to focus on their core business whilst they rely on a world class network operator to manage theircommunications needs.
The Managed Network Services will include various capabilities such as a 24/7 Service Desk,network monitoring and fault reporting, network performance reporting, maintenance support, preventative inspections anddiagnostics and repair services to ensure the best levels of network availability
