Vice President, Advanced Commercial Engineering at Charter Communications
John Dickinson leads the Advanced Commercial Engineering team for Charter Communications. The team is responsible for the architecture and design of the commercial solutions including the SDN/NFV platforms designed to virtualize network functions for Spectrum Enterprise network services. In the past with BHN and TWC he performed research and design of next-generation network architectures, on core, edge and access networks for improving performance and customer experiences. He has 20+ years of experience in the cable industry. He designed and introduced the network operations center and service provider models into the local cable operations in TWC and BHN as a role out of the Digital TV platform. He built and deployed large-scale DWDM metro IP / Ethernet backbone transport converging all data, video and voice services onto a single converged network. John crafted the DOCSIS 3.0 platform for Bright House and oversaw the company-wide deployment of the D3 CMTS platform. He led early PON deployments for both TWC and Bright House Networks, starting with BPON in 2002 and evolving to EPON in 2006. He has led the Bright House Networks EPON deployments for business customers and is instrumental in deploying 1G and 10G EPON into FTTH for residential service offerings. He is one of the founding members of DPOE, and assisted in the development of the DPOE v1.0 specifications with Cable Labs. He also led the DPOE v2.0 effort to ensure the specification would evolve to meet the needs of MSOs in the future.
