Sebastian SchumannSenior Architect Technology & Innovation at Deutsche TelekomSpeaker
Profile
Since October 2018 I work as Senior Architect in the Network Production Development of Deutsche Telekom's intercarrier Network Infrastructure unit. My self-proclaimed mission is to introduce Communications Telco APIs to support our transformation towards an API Telco. Besides that, I advocate an increased usage of hyperscalers in Telecommunications for efficient production and more focus on services.
In my prior role as Vice President of Engineering at immmr I led a ten people team, which in addition coordinated the work of a near-shore partner development team of the same size. My own expertise contributed to the Telco stack integration & technical strategy, and defining future operator scenarios where immmr could be of value.
Before my management role at immmr I have been with Slovak Telekom (the largest Telecommunication operator in Slovakia) for almost a decade. I dealt with various VoIP/NGN platforms, led and contributed to the design of fixed & mobile IMS platforms, deployed a cloud based RCS platform within an international project, and transformed communications services towards the Internet (with focus on WebRTC). I have been involved in application and service design, integration, and implementation for a long time. I have also developed various services myself (REST APIs, WebRTC based service for a couple of hundred users, identity management solution).
With my expertise gathered in the last decade I am a manager and expert in consulting the Telecoms transformation process from a legacy to a modern stack, including leading its implementation.
My specialties are IP based Telco platforms (incl. the convergence of legacy equipment) and convergence of both platforms and services within the ever-growing competitive market.
I'm involved in TADSummit and TADHack and try to contribute my share to building a healthy and promising ecosystem for telecom application development.
I hold the Cambridge ESOL: Business English Certificate Higher and have a strong intercultural experience (working & living abroad for ten years) in both daily work in a foreign environment as well as various multi-national project teams.
