Alessandro Modigliana Wireless Communications Senior Technologist at Satellite Applications Catapult


Alessandro Modigliana is a Senior Specialist in Satellite Communications with over 15 years high qualified professional experience in digital electronics and satellite communication systems and services.

Alessandro obtained a Master Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Padova (Italy) in 2001. Following graduation, he spent 1 year at the Institute for Scientific and Technological Research in Trento working on signal processing algorithms and techniques applied to speech recognition.

In 2001 he moved to Portsmouth to work at ASTRIUM on the Skynet5 program, in the modem technology team. Starting with the design and implementation of the frequency acquisition, rate locking and other modem features, he became the system lead for the FDMA waveform, involved in the full cycle from design, integration and testing.

In 2009 he moved to Toulouse to work at ASTRIUM Services, in the Commercial SatCom Solutions team, supporting the delivery of end-to-end IP Satcom services, in a multi-project, multi-platform and multi-national environment. His main responsibilities include: project management for the delivery of VSAT networks and services, capacity management and optimisation on several leased transponders, pre-sale consultancy, advanced studies on future multi-beam Ka-Band systems, maintain team competences in IP Satcom ground technology.

In 2011 he moved to London to join INMARSAT, working in the Global Xpress on the ground system. Working alongside the hub gateway provider, he has led a series of system activities aiming to ensure the successful delivery of the next generation ground segment and mobile terminals (land, maritime and aero). In particular, he focused on: over-the-air interface and hub design, service requirements analysis, end-to-end system performance, testing strategy, payload multi-beam interference analysis and optimisation, contractors and suppliers’ management, project management

Since April 2015 Alessandro is working at Satellite Applications CATAPULT as Wireless Communications Senior Technologist in the Emerging Technologies team. His main tasks and interests are in future products and services enabled by satellite systems, including FPA antenna technology, next generation terminals and payload for small mobile platforms.
